I had a nice dinner with an old school mate of mine from Nanyang Girls High at Don Noodle yesterday. We haven't had a chance to chat and meet like this before as she was away in UK studying and later went on to work there as a lecturer.
It's amazing to see how my dear friend grew from a quiet girl of few words back then to a confident lady now who is not only a professor at one of the more prestigous colleage in UK, but also being invited frequently to lecture overseas. The best thing is, she specialises in what used to be my pet subject, Chemistry.
I also just realised why she is called Mimi and not King Kuok as we also knew her as. Imagine being Chinese, the name goes like this: King-Kuok Hii. Most people overseas would mistakenly call her as King Kong High. In her own words, "King Kong is already very big sounding, let alone "High"!! There were quite some funny encounters with her Chinese name and so in the end she used her pet name called by her family, Mimi.
By the way, her chinese name, 庆国, is also pretty unusual for a girl, as it means "celebrate National Day" which is more commonly used as a guy's name.
I jokingly told her it would be really fun to see other's reaction when they imagine someone masculine and big named King-Kong appearing and what a surprise they will get when they see her, a pretty young Asian girl!!
Had wanted to upload our photo taken together but something's wrong with the USB connection to my phone today and looks like I have to try it later. So till then, the suspense of the appearance of this King Kong lady continues.... Stay tuned!
[this is good]
Dear Selenium:
